The International Association of Privacy Professionals (IAPP) released an updated version of its Key Terms for AI Governance glossary, developed with input from experts on the organization's AI Governance Center Advisory Board..  The glossary is an important resource for anyone who is interested in or engaged with AI governance. AI governance is a system of laws, policies, frameworks, practices and processes at international, national and organizational levels that help various stakeholders implement, manage and oversee the use of AI technology. One of the key challenges of AI governance is the lack of a common lexicon and shared understanding of the terms and phrases used in AI. This can lead to confusion, misunderstanding and inconsistency among different actors and domains.  The glossary aims to provide a common language and understanding of the terms and phrases used in the field of artificial intelligence (AI), which is rapidly evolving across different sectors and industries. The glossary is intended for business, technology and government professionals who are involved in or affected by the development, implementation and regulation of AI systems. 

 What's new in the updated glossary?

 The updated glossary, which is an update to the June 2023 release of the original version, includes new terms and modifications to existing terms.  The eight new terms include:

• Deepfakes
• Disinformation
• Misinformation
• Parameters
• Semi-supervised learning
• Transformer model

The new terms reflect the latest developments and challenges in the AI landscape, and aim to provide more clarity, nuance and accuracy to the definitions and explanations.
