Uproar Over Explicit Taylor Swift AI Deepfake Images Drives States to Protect Victims from Abuse

Public anger burned hot after explicit, AI-generated deepfake images of global superstar Taylor Swift spread through social media like wildfire. An army of Swift's supporters mobilised and mass-reported the images to have them removed. State lawmakers are following this swift action to protect victims from the spread of nonconsensual, explicit images generated by AI, with more than half of the U.S. population now covered by state protection against this type of abuse. Federal regulation, however, continues to lag behind the blistering pace of AI development.

"State lawmakers have acted, however, after [explicit] AI-made deepfakes of popstar Taylor Swift in January had millions of views on social media before being removed."
