FTC to Host AI Virtual Summit Jan. 25

On January 5th the Federal Trade Commission's Office of Technology announced they will be hosting a virtual summit to discuss key developments in AI on January 25th. The summit participants are set to include representatives from academia, industry, civil society organizations and government.

The virtual half-day summit will begin at noon ET with welcome remarks and include three panel discussions along with remarks from FTC Chair Lina M. Khan and Commissioners Rebecca Kelly Slaughter and Alvaro Bedoya. Of note, the FTC's recently filed proposed stipulated order against RiteAid listed all three of the speakers, and in the release accompanying the order Commissioner Bedoya described the order as “a strong baseline for what an algorithmic fairness program should look like.” We covered the order in additional detail in our previous AI and Privacy posts on the subject.

The tentative agenda for the event is available on the FTC's website's event page where they will also post additional information on the agenda and speaker details closer to the event.
