As reported in the National Law Journal, new president of the American Bar Association, Mary Smith, has indicated that she plans to address artificial intelligence as one of the most significant legal issues she believes is facing the legal industry today. Under her leadership, the ABA has created a number of new task forces, one of which is focused on AI. That task force will consider and make recommendations regarding how AI is incorporated within the law and legal standards.

"Artificial intelligence has great promise but also potentially great peril for those who practice law and, frankly, all of society," Smith said. "[The AI] task force will take a comprehensive look at the impact of artificial intelligence, not only on the practice of law but on ethics, on regulations and access to justice."
